We as women are a population obsessed with all things beauty. Last year, it was reported that women spend more than $426 Billion Dollars a year on beauty products. The reasons for this are not at all surprising, beauty and cosmetic products not only help us tackle issues such as dry or sensitive skin; they also allow us to show the world a little bit more of our personality. However, for the majority of us spending a large amount of our monthly budget on these products is simply not an option. That’s why we have compiled a list of our best money saving beauty tips – to help you save those precious pennies.

Multi-purpose Products

Nothing beats a multi-purpose beauty product, they save you money, time and precious space in your makeup bag. There are many standard make-up products which can be used all over the face, to help make getting ready in the morning just a little bit easier and more affordable. Our favourites are: Bronzer which can also be used and an eyeshadow, lipsticks doubled as blushes, shimmery eyeshadows as highlighters and clear mascaras as brow gels.

DIY Beauty

Making your own skin care products is not only a fun and affordable alternative; they can also be healthier for your skin. Some high end brands will fill their products with unnatural preservative and ingredients, no one can pronounce. DIY beauty product recipes can be found all over the internet, making it easier than ever to make your own body scrub, face or hair mask; right in the comfort of your own home.

Use One, Buy One

Have you ever in the heat of the moment purchased a new lipstick, eyeshadow or nail polish, to only discover once home that you already own a product in an almost identical shade? To prevent this from happening, limit your purchases by only buying a new product once you have used up a similar item you already own.

Beauty Boxes

Beauty boxes have only become more popular since they were first introduced a couple of years ago. How it works is each month – or quarterly – a new box is released containing a mixture of full sized and sample sized beauty products. Some of the individual products will exceed the value of the entire box, making it a great way to try those pricy brands you would otherwise feel guilty purchasing. Also often enough beauty blogs reveal the contents of the box before its release, allowing you to see whether the products inside are right for you.

No Make-up Day

Although for many, the idea of stepping outside the front door barefaced is enough to make you jump back in bed and hide in embarrassment. However wearing make-up every day of the week is not only costly, it is also unhealthy for your skin. By giving yourself just one make-up free day a week your skin will soon become clearer, your products will last longer and your overall confidence will quickly grow.

  1. These tips are very helpful because I definitely find myself spending so much money on beauty products even though I do have a few days a week that I go without make-up. I never thought of using my products as multipurpose or trying to make my own. Great post!

  2. Great post! I think beauty boxes save money too in the fact that getting all these little samples might help you find things that work for you, and that helps too so you don’t have to buy the regular sizes, hate them, and toss them!
