The growth of Snapchat  shouldn’t come as a big surprise. Snapchat, which The Infinite Dial has been keeping an eye on and studying for the past few years.

When they first started tracking Snapchat, 3 percent of Americans were among those which made use of this social networking tool. The next year, the usage jumped to 14 percent, then to 17 percent. This year alone the percentage of users is at 23 percent.

Snapchat increased from 3 percent to 23 percent in four years and that is seen as incredible progress for a social network.

Who uses Snapchat?

Facebook takes its place as the number-one social media platform every year, including 2016. It has almost two-thirds of Americans using a single brand. Zuckerberg bought Instagram which has also become a network that many Americans use. But unfortunately (at least for now) Zuckerberg was unable to buy Snapchat, a social media app mostly used by teens and young adults.

Snapchat is an application mostly used by Millennials and it is growing. For example, currently there are more than 200 million active users and one of the fastest growing social media applications. As a matter of fact, Snapchat users view more than 8 billion videos on its platform a day. Wow! That’s a lot of video watching.

Digital advertisers see this as a gold mine. With more than 200 million users, Snapchat has an influential role in the world of digital advertising. And knowing that its users are of a specific generation, makes it even more appealing to digital advertisers. For example, the average user is 18 years of age.

The appealing part of Snapchat is that videos and selfies disappear within 24 hours and perhaps this is one of the major reasons Millennials find Snapchat alluring. Unlike Facebook and other social media platforms, you don’t have to worry about all of those things you posted online coming back to haunt you later on. Well, at least for now that is the case.

Snapchat is a great networking medium for the Generation Y users because they are able to relate to one another so well. Being one that has grown up in the technological advances that we’re experiencing in the world today, makes this app more than just a fad as some had said about it when Snapchat first got started. With its 100 million users per day and growing, its recent value is estimated at $16 billion. That’s a lot of change!

Snapchat has experienced tremendous growth in the past few years, and with the introduction of smartphones into the social media mix, their growth can only continue to increase.

  1. Ugh Snap Chat. I had it a long time ago. Deleted it. Now it’s back. But I am slightly annoyed by it for some reason. Perhaps I should just embrace it lol.
